In electrical and electronic engineering, a split type current transformer is an electrical device with jaws which open to allow clamping around an electrical conductor. This allows measurement of the current in a conductor without the need to make physical contact with it, or to disconnect it for insertion through the probe. split type current transformers are typically used to read the magnitude of alternating current (AC) and, with additional instrumentation, the phase and waveform can also be measured. Some clamps meters can measure currents of 1000 A and more.

Applications
The round jaw design on the JW Series AC split type current transformer along with the high content nickel metal core makes them well suited for power quality applications where high accuracy and low phase shift along with wide frequency are important. Measurement range is 1mA to 1200A.

The JW split type current transformer is a general purpose 1000A AC current clamp designed for use with DMMs, loggers and other instruments that have a current input. It has a 1000:1 ratio and output of 1mA per amp or 1mV per amp measured in the jaw. The JW has an integral 2.5m lead terminated.
